In terms of his belief in the Jewish notion of one God, Einstein veered once again from the traditional. In this area he followed the teachings of Baruch Spinoza (1632—1677), a European rationalist philosopher. Spinoza was himself Jewish, although he rejected many of the principles of Orthodox Judaism.
