The Pied Piper

Many Are Lured by the Pied Piper

March 12,2022

In 1284, while the town of Hamelin was suffering from a rat infestation, a piper dressed in multicolored ("pied") clothing appeared, promising the mayor a solution to their problem with the rats.

The mayor and the people accepted the offer and the town was totally freed of the rodents. The townspeople especially the children were jumping with joy; they can now get out of their respective homes no longer afraid of the plague and pandemic that claimed so much lives.

But the mayor and the people did not fulfill their promise to pay the rat catcher. The Pied Piper again returned early dawn playing his pipe. But this time, as an act of vengeance, without the knowledge of their parents who were fast asleep, it was the children.

It was a festive occasion for the children who were marching with him to the hills and mountains until they all vanished and disappeared. It was too late for the mayor and the townspeople to intervene and save their children.

Writers like the Grimm Brothers and Robert Browning may have shaped the Pied Piper legend into art, but it turns out that the story is likely based on an actual historical incident.

Moral Lesson

Always fulfill your promise and what you owe. Otherwise, the pandemic will resurrect and infest on you and the globe with more virulent life-threatening diseases. This is the universal law of karma.
